Maple Leaf Forever: Bench_01

Maple Leaf Forever: Bench_01

2015

Materials: Powdercoated Steel, Maple

Dimensions: 80” x 60” x 16”

Bench_01 is named for using the first piece cut from the famous Canadian maple tree that inspired Alexander Muir to write the poem and song “The Maple Leaf Forever” in 1867.

The character of the log has been left in tact, and is cradled by laser-cut steel. At the narrow end of the piece, a sculptural coat rack protrudes, vertically balancing the strong horizontal plane of the raw wood.

Designed and made in collaboration with Andrew Kroetsch and Jessye Grundlingh.
